My views on Hong Kong Music Industry (by mawhale)

I am not a professional musician, but I am interested in music. I know how to play guitar, and occasionally I like play and singing song with my guitar.

Hong Kong music today to give me the feeling of the following characteristics:

1) Too focus on idol package.

Whether the singer is talented in music or idol, most of the audiences will focus on the appearance of the singer only, pay attention to the image is definitely not wrong, but I think some fans are completely ignore the singer’s skills, e.g. if its singing is good or not, whether to sing the song with appropriate taste or not, in short, blindly support their idols, no matter how good or bad of a new song, just blindly  support, this finally let another powerful singers cannot get the attention from the media, and cannot be the focus point.

2) Too commercial, song types are too monotonous.

90% of Hong Kong songs, the topics are regarding love between valentines, especially focus on young people love, this reflected most of the Hong Kong musicians compose the song and lyrics are too focusing on commercial aspect, maybe they think their biggest market is young people. But on this point, I was seeing some of the Hong Kong musicians and singers also have efforts to improve this, occasionally from TV or radio, I heard some alternative theme songs. For example, talk about family, talk about life … and so on. Although these songs are often cannot popular for a long time and will be forgotten by people in a short period.
