I play guitar after my children grew up (By H.S. Chang)

My guitar story

Since my two elder brothers began working in society, they have income, and they also like pop music, they share money bought a set of drums, so I have the opportunity to play, but cannot afford the study fees, so I do not have opportunity to learn how to play drum in music school.

Most of the people in sixties of Hong Kong,  we were living in poor economic environment, go to music school learn popular instruments is a very precious thing  on that time. Due to most of the young people do not have money study in a formal music school, just self-study or taught by friends, young people happy to form amateur band, I was also invited by friend and formed a band, however, as mentioned above, we do not have formal music training, so everywhere, noisy and noisy, finally, our band was also dissolved, but I am still very interested in music.

Time flies, after a lapse of twenty years, my children are grew up, in order to fill the generation gap between us, and guide my children to play their talents. I
bought a acoustic guitar to test their interest, also play with them together, my daughter interested in classical guitar and my son just play with us at sometimes.
I have to play some folk songs, but all are self-taught, listen to some songs, reading books and video from Internet, and then follow it and try by myself.

If some songs I like them very much,but cannot find the score(sheet), then I will create it by myself, I even made the intro part of the song by myself.

I was singing karaoke for a while, I feel that this activity not too much satisfied with my requirements., later, I am very interested in play and singing song with Guitar. As I am a Father of a girl and a boy, so for demonstration to the young people, I keep practice, an practice, I would like to let young people know that no pain no gain, also as long as there’s pay out, there will always be a certain degree of results.

The young people always have so many interests, anythings would like to try, but do not spend time to play it in deep, this is wasting time, I always saw young people try a song in a short period, if there has a new song, then they will try the new song, and ignore the previous song,  cannot keep focus on their target.

In my point of view,  I was determined to focus on one song, play it well before learning another, if I can play a few songs well, at least  I can perform the songs in friends’ gathering party or some occasions in public.

The results I trained a dozen songs that i have confidence to play in front of people, I uploaded some of them to YouTube and share with public,
the first song that I covered is called Puff, which is original sung by Peter Paul & Mary, I was uploaded for only a week, Youtube was selected it as a featured video, I was encouraged by this. That is not advertising, nor is paid ranking. I am not sure why they selected my video clip, I think it may not a popular video, may be a bit special! With this encouragement, I keep recording other songs and upload to Youtube, and now I would also like to join your music website – “I am Guitar Player .COM”, in order to get another experience with my guitar learning story and exchange information with other guitar lovers.

My favorite song styles are pop folk and blues, I felt they are simple and clear to understand, also I can sing it in single way, and do not need to add special effects. My second choice is song with light sweet feeling and easy listening, better popular in a longer period, like classical song, if  one song after a long time it is still popular, then it must be a good song. This is my personal feeling and personal preferences, also range and music levels that I can handle.

As a folk song lovers, the following two famous songs that  I created to respect the original singers of the songs, American folk song and Cantonese folk song, and would like to recommend people listen to their songs:

The  following two are songs for my little daughter, when she went to study in British with a Scholarship, on that moment, my whole family to sing these songs together.

I usually feel pain of throat in longer speaking time, less than a few Minutes have been feeling comfortable, after learned Chinese Gigong, now I know how to use the gas from stomach to sing, instead of only using gas from lungs.

After learning music (guitar play and sing), I got better health body, wisdom and change the role of mind to me, anyway, I think I do not write too much here.
